Meiji University Japanese Language Program

As one of the six most prestigious universities in Tokyo, Meiji University attracts more than 100,000 applicants each year, and there are currently over 34,000 students -including approximately 1,600 international students- enrolled in the university.

For those who wish to experience what it is like studying in Japan for a short-term, the university offers three programs for international students to study the Japanese language, Japanese law, and Japanese culture respectively. Each of the programs is rich in content and consists of a wide variety of lectures and hands-on learning.

Meiji university

The Japanese Language Program cultivates study of the Japanese language, culture, and society from various aspects and is offered both in summer and in winter. The Program is also designed to facilitate the learning needs of different students better as it is provided in four levels: Introductory, Beginner, Pre-intermediate, and Intermediate. Undergraduate or graduate-level students of overseas universities are all eligible to apply for this 18-day program.

The course includes Japanese Language Classes( 45min×42classes)as well as Field Studies/Activities(4.5hours×1time, 3hours×1time). Held in Surugadai campus which is located right in the heart of Tokyo, this program is perfect for those who love to explore as you will be surrounded by exciting places such as Jimbocho, the largest district of used and antique bookstores in Japan, and Akihabara, the well-known “electricity town” famous for anime.

Japanese Language Program Summer 2019

The 2019 Summer Program will be held from 16 July 2019 to 2 August 2019 and accepts approximately 60 students with 10 students per class. Again, the university may accept more than 60 students. The application period will be from 1 February to 12 March. The program fees for the Summer Program is shown below. Japanese Language Program Winter 2019

The 2019 Winter Program was held from 4 February 2019 to 21 February 2019. Though it is no longer possible to participate in this program this year, you can always participate in the 2010 Winter program. The program accepts approximately 40 students with 10 students per class. Again, the university may accept more than 40 students depending on the situation. Scholarship

Meiji University’s Japanese Language Program was selected as one of the Student Exchange Support Programs (Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan) sponsored by JASSO. As such, Meiji University will offer a scholarship (JPY 80,000) on the last day of the program to participants who are either undergraduate or graduate students of Meiji University’s partner institution,  meet requirements set by JASSO, and if necessary, pass the screening of Meiji University.
