International Christian University (ICU) has a strong focus on their Liberal Arts Program. As instilled in these words – Expanding Potential – ICU offers a diverse range of academic fields to enable students to discover what they truly want to study.

ICU’s liberal arts course covers humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, where students are required to fill certain amount of credits. One of the best and convenient characteristics of ICU’s liberal arts is the selection process of your Majors being at the end of your second year. This allows students to explore a wide range of subject including polishing up their English or Japanese as a foreign language before fully focusing on their research at University.

Students are able to design their own learning by themselves. This free, expansive learning at ICU will show students the enjoyment of learning and turn them into people who will continue to learn and grow for the rest of their lives.

Amongst a few colleges in Japan pursuing liberal arts education, ICU however is the only Japanese member of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance, a group of 29 liberal arts colleges in 15 countries worldwide.

Furthermore, another characteristic of ICU’s education are the class timings. The classes at ICU are only 70 minutes long – what sets ICU apart from most other universities is that each course actually have multiple classes per week. Commonly, one course will have three class a week, which makes 210 minutes of class time per week for one course. This allows students to engage with the subjects taught in a deeply, through provoking manner as well as building a relationship with teachers and fellow students.
