According to the school website, most scholarships will require students to sign up for Scholarship Application Registration (Shogakukin Shutsugan tôroku) which is a common step to start your search financial aid available for you. They can be quite tedious, requiring you to submit various certificates and papers but these are necessary to fully asses your eligibility as these scholarships are either merit-based or need-based, and sometimes even both. Financial Aid for Students from Inter-university Exchange Partner Institutions

Currently, there are only two scholarships available for *Special International Students” which is how Rikkyo refers to its exchange students from partner institutions.

Open to: Graduate and Undergraduate Students

Value: 80,000 JPY/month for 12 months

Application Period: (Spring admission) Early January (Fall admission) Early May

  • MEXT (Monbukagakusho Scholarship)

Open to: Graduate students only

Value: an estimate 145,000- 148,000 JPY per month for 18 months with an economy round-trip air ticket to cover for travel expenses.

Tuition Reduction

Rikkyo University offers tuition reductions for privately-financed international students with “College Student” resident status who face financial difficulties pursuing university education.

The application procedures are carried out after admission.
Based on the application documents, International Office will check whether the applicant has “College Student” resident status and determine whether the applicant qualifies upon reviewing his/her financial situation.

The reduction percentage for the academic year 2018 is 30%. (The tuition reduction system and the reduction percentage are subject to change each year.)
