What is OUSSEP?
Osaka University Short-term Student Exchange Program (OUSSEP) is an English-speaking exchange program that was launched in the 1996 – 1997 academic year at Osaka University. This program was designed for students who are in their third and forth years, and has a student exchange agreement with Osaka University (OU). Students who are enrolled as an OUSSEP student can take special academic lectures taught in English for a semester or two (approximately half-year or full year).
What makes OUSSEP unique is that Japanese students are encouraged to take the same classes as OUSSEP student which provides them with an opportunity to meet and become friends with native students. This opportunity gives them a chance to practice their Japanese skills and also experience Japanese culture together.
OUSSEP offers a variety of subjects, such as:
- Medical Sciences
- Natural sciences
- Engineering Sciences
- Social sciences
- Arts and foreign studies.
This program is perfect for those who want to study in Japan but are worried about their Japanese proficiency. Most students who wish to explore Japan are afraid of the language barrier. As the growing popularity of the Japanese culture is reaching globally, more and more people have become fascinated with the culture. Students who want to come to Japan and experience the lifestyle are discouraged from coming to Japan due to the fear of communication problems. This program doesn’t require you to have prior knowledge about Japan nor Japanese proficiency, making OUSSEP a good option for study abroad.
The only required language ability is:
- TOEFL iBT 80
- IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
To apply for this program, please check with your home institution exchange student programs and follow the application instructions.
Osaka University has both on-campus and off-campus housing available for students. For many students, finding a place to stay in Japan proves to be very challenging, but Osaka University guarantees a single room in university housing for students who have agreements with OU. This is very helpful for all international students especially for those who are coming to Japan for their first time. It helps students take one step closer to coming to Japan.
A single room in University housing is very cheap and affordable. The dormitory fees only come to about 30,00 ~ 40,000 yen/month. Even though the dormitories don’t have dining facilities, compared to living by yourself off-campus, it is still considerably cheap.
Dormitory fee includes:
Applications for housing are accepted the same time as the exchange program application on the web-page, therefore students can submit both applications together.
