Learning the Essentials

What are the necessary skills if you want to work in the business field?  The core skills to be mastered are indubitably having business ethics, problem solving mindset and a global outlook. APU’s APM curriculum exactly focuses on strengthening these abilities. Lectures are designed to give students a broad understanding of the diverse political systems, economies, societies and cultures of the Asia Pacific as well as fundamental and advanced knowledge and the skills pertaining to business administration. Students in APM begin their studies with learning corporate strategy and core management.  After getting these classes, students are free to take classes of their interest.  APM students graduate with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. There are two enrollment semesters – Spring (April) and Fall (September). The yearly intake is limited to 660 students.

Graduate student of APU

A: Hello, my name is Enkhtsatsral and  graduated APM in 2016. Currently, I’m working as an auditor at KPMG Audit LLC in Mongolia, my home country.

At the annual KPMG New Year Celebration

Q: Can you talk a bit about how and why you choose to work at KPMG?

A: When I first enrolled to APU in 2012, I wasn’t sure of what to pursue in future. After taking classes in Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Strategic Management and Organization and Innovation and Economics, I liked Accounting and Finance the most. Since that time, I set my eyes on working at one of the Big 4 auditing firms. After finishing my third year, I did an internship at Deloitte Onch LLC, member of Deloitte Global in Mongolia during my summer break. During the internship, I was working at the Tax Department, where my work consisted of managing invoices and documents for customers and preparing financial statements for small events. I learnt a lot. After graduating, I started working at KPMG, at the Audit Department.

Q:  One of the best points of APM?

A: I can certainly say that the teachers are very knowledgeable and definitely make sure students are understanding the subject. I was in Accounting and Finance seminar class during my fourth year and my accounting professor helped me a lot when I was writing my thesis. My thesis topic was “Capital Structure of Japanese Consumer Electronics Industry”.

Areas of Study

As you may have noticed from Enkhtsatsral’s interview, there are four main areas of study in APM. To cultivate human resources with the drive and creativity to succeed in the dynamic world of business in Asia, APU established Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Strategic Management and Organization and Innovation and Economics majors. Regardless of the interest field, all freshman students are required to take Business Mathematics and Introduction to Management.

Accounting and Finance

The health of corporations is evaluated by the flow of money, which is known as accounting, while finance is the field concerned with raising and managing the funds necessary for this corporate activity. Students learn about these fields in international context.

The theories and methods needed to provide goods and services to the global market is the focus of courses in the marketing cluster.  This cluster is about identifying the most effective method to link production to the final consumer and determine how much to provide at what cost.

Strategic Management and Organization

If you are aspiring to become an entrepreneur or plan to take over your family business, you should definitely look into this cluster because the classes focus on how to set goals, establish principles and develop methods for an organization so that it meets the challenges of evolving social needs.

Innovation and Economics

Are you engrossed by the thought of global development through business or policymaking? This cluster concerns about what generates innovation, production management techniques and the underlying economic foundations of these concepts.
