Fortunately, for students in Malaysia seeking to improve their Japanese language skills, there are several language centres ready to provide.
Pusat Bahasa Teikyo (PBT)
Pusat Bahasa Teikyo (PBT) is a Japanese Language Preparatory Centre for students from Malaysia who intend to continue their studies in Japan. PBT claims the position as sole institution outside of Japan to be recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) presently. PBT provides 12-month and 20-month complete preparatory courses which subjects includes not only Japanese Language, but also Japan studies and social studies. Students completing PBT’s preparatory courses gained the advantage of receiving recommendation to enter PBT’s affiliated universities.
For those who are interested only in improving their Japanese language skills, either for further studies or seeking employment in Japan, PBT provides the Japanese Language Specialized Courses of 12-months and 20-months. The 12 months course teaches from beginner to intermediate level Japanese, while 20-month course offers further teaching to advanced level. Total tuition fee for the courses range from 20,500 RM ($5039) to 28,500 RM ($7005) for 12-months courses and 34,000 RM ($8357) to 36,000 RM ($8849) for 20-months courses, with educational materials and group accident insurance fee.
A to Z Language Centre
A to Z Language Centre is a language school offering a variety of foreign languages for students, including Japanese language. The A to Z Language Centre main office is located in Damansara Utama, with branches in Sri Petaling, Johor Bahru, and Penang. A to Z Language Centre provides Japanese Intensive Class, Japanese Group Class, as well as Private Class for students requiring more flexible timing. The Japanese Group Class is based on the Minna no Nihongo (みんなの日本語) Japanese Textbook with levels ranging from level 1 to 5 for Basic and level 6 to 10 for Intermediate. Each level tackles 5 chapters from the textbook, starting from chapter 1 up to chapter 50. The fee for Group Class is 400 RM ($98) per level for 12 sessions, with additional textbook and registration fee for new students. The teachers for all Japanese language classes are qualified and experienced native speakers.
ILOHA Culture Centre
ILOHA Culture Centre aims to introduce Japanese culture to Malaysians by providing a variety of classes and workshops including Japanese language classes. ILOHA Culture Centre provides part-time Japanese language courses, full-time Japanese language courses, and private lessons. Part-time courses consists of once a week meeting for 12 sessions while Full-time Course consists of a 12-month course for five days a week (Monday to Friday). Students can learn not only how to read and write, but also learn how to speak Japanese. The levels range from beginner to advanced classes. Course fees are 390 RM ($96) for part-time courses, 17,500 RM ($4302) for full-time courses, and 90 RM ($22) per hour for private lessons per person. Similar to A to Z language Centre, the language classes from ILOHA Culture Centre are taught by native professional instructors.
