Hosei University has three methods of receiving financial aid for both undergraduate and graduate students.  The university offers scholarships and tuition reduction systems, as well as the Vietnam Friendship Scholarship in partnership with the Vietnam Corporation. This article will outline the necessary details of each of these financial aid packages offered for international students of the university in reference to the 2022 Online Brochure, the Digital Handbook for International Students 2021 and the Applicant Guidelines for Vietnam Friendship Scholarship by Hosei University and Taisei Corporation. Tuition Reduction System

This financial aid is offered to self-supporting international students who are in their undergraduate and graduate studies.

Grant

For undergraduates, there is a 30% reduction for 1st-year students and a 0%, 40%, or 50% reduction based on academic evaluation for enrolled students.

For graduates, there is a 20% tuition reduction.

Application

Check the bulletin boards of each campus’s Global Education Center (GEC), GEC’s website, or the Administrative Division of each graduate school for the available notice about the scholarships for international students. For the registration process, students must submit an application form called the “entry sheet for Hosei University intramural scholarship selection for international students (for undergraduate students)” every academic year.  The entry sheet contains a list of scholarships, and by applying to them, you will automatically be a recommended candidate when recruitment starts in or after April. Scholarships

For undergraduate students, there are three scholarship types:

1.  Hosei Internationalization Fund (HIF) International Undergraduate Student Scholarship

  • Grant: 200,000 JPY a year for Humanities students and 250,000 JPY a year for Sciences students.
  • Qualification: The scholarship is awarded to two second-year and two fourth-year students with outstanding academic performance and three first-year students with excellent entrance examination results.
  • Application information: English application is possible, however, there are only 9 recipients.

2. New Hosei University Centennial Scholarship

  • Grant: 200,000 JPY a year for Humanities students and 250,000 JPY a year for Science and Technology students.
  • Qualification: This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who are in need of financial assistance to fund their education. They must have a student visa and must not receive other scholarships.
  • Application information: English application is applicable. The number of recipients is 60. Recruitment period is around late June.

3. HUCo., Ltd. Scholarship

  • Grant: 200,000 JPY a year for Humanities students and 250,000 JPY a year for Science and Technology students.
  • Qualification: This scholarship is for undergraduate students who are in need of financial assistance to fund their education. They must have a student visa and must not receive other scholarships.
  • Application Information: English application is applicable, although there are only 6 recipients. Recruitment period is around late June.

For graduate students, there is currently only one internal scholarship:

1.  Hosei University Graduate School Scholarships

  • Grant: 200,000 JPY per year
  • Qualification: This scholarship is for students with excellent academic performance who need financial aid.
  • Application Information: English application is applicable. Recruitment period is around mid-April.

Application:

For undergraduate students, refer to the application process of the tuition reduction system. Also, there is an “appointment” selection type, wherein no application is necessary and the university will select and appoint recipients.

For graduate students, check recruitment notices for scholarships for graduate students at the Administrative Division of each graduate school (Ichigaya Campus), the Koganei International Office, the Tama Student Affairs Office, and at the GEC website. Also, confirm guidelines and submit application forms to one of the offices listed below.

Vietnam Friendship Scholarship

This financial aid package is especially for first-year Vietnamese international students who belong to the Faculty of Engineering and Design (Department of Architecture or Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) or the Graduate School of Engineering and Design (major in architecture or civil and environmental engineering).
